Presentation

Noël Lugan, CNRS Senior Researcher, was born the same year than Constitution of the Fifth French Republic in Figeac, SouthWest of France. He was educated at the University Pierre and Marie Curie in Paris (Bachelor’s degree in general chemistry) then at the University Paul Sabatier in Toulouse (Master’s degree in coordination chemistry). He completed is PhD degree in 1982 under the guidance of Prof J.-J. Bonnet at the Laboratoire de Chimie de Coordination du CNRS (LCC-CNRS) in Toulouse, in the field of ruthenium clusters chemistry. He got appointed as CNRS Researcher the same year in the same lab… Soon after, he moved to Northwestern University in Evanston (USA) for a first postdoctoral stay under the supervision of Prof James A. Ibers where he got specialized in X-ray diffraction. I got his Habilitation in 1987, still in the field of ruthenium cluster chemistry, then he moved to PennState University in State College (USA) for a second postdoctoral stay in the group of Prof Gregory L. Geoffroy where he started working in the field of manganese organometallic chemistry he is still involved in. The rest of his career was carried out at the LCC-CNRS in Toulouse where he is as of today leader of the Group "Molecular design of transition-metal pre-catalysts" and Deputy Director.
