				<div class="et_pb_text_inner">Chauffer un matériau le fait généralement gonfler. Des scientifiques de l’équipe ‘‘<a href="https://www.lcc-toulouse.fr/materiaux-moleculaires-commutables-v2-equipe-p/"><em>Matériaux Moléculaires Commutables</em></a>’’ montrent qu’en combinant intelligemment deux matériaux distincts au sein d’une structure particulière, on peut en fait provoquer soit une expansion, soit une contraction spectaculaire, bien au-delà de ce que les matériaux seuls peuvent produire. Cette approche, publiée dans <em><span>Advanced Materials,</span></em><span> ouvre la voie à une nouvelle génération d’actionneurs et muscles artificiels à base de matériaux stimulables imprimés en 3D.</span></p>
<p><strong>De la molécule au mouvement macroscopique</strong></p>
<p>L’objectif des chercheurs était d’exploiter les propriétés uniques des complexes de fer à transition de spin (SCO), qui subissent une variation de volume de l’ordre de 10% de la maille élémentaire lors de leur transition entre deux états électroniques. Pour cela, ils ont d’abord synthétisé des particules de complexes de fer à transition de spin anisométriques, en forme de bâtonnets, présentant par ailleurs un changement de volume anisotropique. Ces particules, à base de [Fe(II)(4-NH₂-1,2,4-triazole)₃]SO₄, ont été choisies pour leur transition de spin réversible et légèrement au-dessus de l&rsquo;ambiante, une température compatible avec des applications pratiques.</p>
<p>L’étape suivante était d’incorporer ces particules dans une matrice de thermoplastique polyuréthane (TPU), un polymère souple et résistant afin d’élaborer des matériaux composites polymères à transition de spin. Le composite résultant, SCO@TPU, conserve les propriétés de transition de spin au-dessus de la température ambiante, tout en étant facile à mettre en forme. En s’appuyant sur la modélisation mécanique, cela leur a permis de choisir le design efficace et la prédiction des propriétés attendues.</p>
<p><strong>L’alignement et l’impression 3D : clés de l’amplification du mouvement</strong></p>
<p>Les chercheurs ont aligné les particules anisométriques dans les matériaux composites grâce à des procédés de coulage et d’extrusion. Cet alignement permet de concentrer la déformation dans une direction privilégiée, comme les fibres dans un muscle. Ils ont ensuite élaboré des filaments composites avec un diamètre contrôlé adaptés à l’impression 3D par dépôt de fil fondu (FDM).</p>
<p>Une approche bi-matériaux a été utilisée pour obtenir de nouveaux métamatériaux dont les performances de mouvement ont pu être modélisées. Les chercheurs ont combiné le composite SCO@TPU (matériau actif) avec un TPU plus rigide (matériau passif) pour concevoir des structures architecturées et optimisées par modélisation mécanique, où la géométrie des cellules unitaires (comme des losanges) permet de programmer le sens et l’amplitude de la déformation. Les simulations par éléments finis ont prédit que ces structures pouvaient atteindre une amplification de mouvement significative, avec un facteur de « magnification » de 14 par rapport à une structure similaire mono-matériau.</p>
<p><strong>Obtention de métamatériaux aux performances record</strong></p>
<p>Grâce à l’impression 3D de matériaux composites à transition de spin par FDM, les chercheurs ont obtenu des structures 4D capables de se déformer de manière spectaculaire et réversible sous l’effet de la chaleur. Les résultats sont sans précédent :</p>
<ul>
<li>Expansion positive jusqu’à +10 % (coefficient de dilatation thermique de +14 400 ppm/°C).</li>
<li>Contraction négative jusqu’à -8 % (coefficient de -11 400 ppm/°C).</li>
<li>Robustesse : déformations répétables sur plusieurs cycles thermiques.</li>
</ul>
<p>Ces métamatériaux 4D ouvrent des perspectives prometteuses et passionnantes pour des applications en robotique souple, où ils pourraient servir d’actionneurs légers et auto-alimentés, ou en aérospatiale, pour des structures déployables et reconfigurables. Leur multifonctionnalité (changement de couleur, de rigidité et de volume) et leur versatilité (le composé actif et le polymère peuvent être modifiés pour faire varier la température d’actionnement, l’amplitude de la déformation ou la force qui en découle) en font également des candidats idéaux pour diverses applications et en particulier dans le cadre du développement de textiles intelligents.</p>
<p>Cette étude représente une rupture technologique originale car elle montre pour la première fois que le phénomène de transition de spin peut être utilisé à l’échelle macroscopique grâce à l’impression 3D, accompagnée par une modélisation mécanique sérieuse. Les scientifiques ont mis en évidence qu&rsquo;il est possible de concevoir des matériaux ainsi que des métamatériaux qui imitent le fonctionnement des muscles. Les chercheurs prévoient désormais d’optimiser davantage les performances en ajustant la composition chimique des complexes SCO et en explorant des architectures plus complexes, notamment en intégrant des modules électroniques de contrôles intelligents pour l’automatisme.</p>

				<div class="et_pb_text_inner"><p>Cette revue très complète fait le point sur les avancées récentes concernant les clathrates de type Hofmann, des matériaux de coordination remarquables par leur capacité à basculer entre un état haut spin (HS) et un état bas spin (LS) sous l’effet de stimuli externes (température, pression, lumière ou molécules invitées). Ce phénomène de transition de spin (SCO), réversible et souvent coopératif, en fait des candidats de choix pour des applications en électronique moléculaire, spintronique, stockage de données ou encore capteurs.</p>
<p>L&rsquo;article fait un bilan des avancées en synthèse qui ont permis d&rsquo;explorer ces matériaux sous toutes leurs formes : cristaux massifs, mais aussi nanoparticules et films minces, tout en préservant la propriété intéressante de transition de spin. Les auteurs étudient également l&rsquo;influence de la structure de ces composés, leur dimensionnalité, la nature des ligands ou la connectivité entre métaux, sur les paramètres de la transition : température critique, largeur de l’hystérésis, ou encore comportements multi-étapes.</p>
<p>La façon dont la transition de spin peut être couplée à d’autres phénomènes électroniques, comme le transfert de charge est également un élément important. Maîtriser ces interactions permettra de synthétiser des matériaux SCO multifonctionnels avec des applications plus riches.</p>
<p>Un autre point marquant est que, fort heureusement, la miniaturisation de ces systèmes ne détruit pas systématiquement leur coopérativité. Certains travaux montrent même qu’on peut conserver ou renforcer ce comportement collectif à l’échelle nanométrique, une condition indispensable si on veut un jour les intégrer dans des composants réels.</p>
<p>L’article insiste également sur un autre levier pour moduler leurs propriétés : l’insertion de molécules invitées dans leurs pores. Selon la nature de cette molécule, il est possible de faire varier finement le comportement magnétique, la réponse optique ou les propriétés diélectriques de ces matériaux de type Hofmann. Il est donc possible d’envisager de les utiliser pour des capteurs ou des interrupteurs moléculaires capables de réagir à leur environnement.</p>
<p>Ces matériaux sont donc prometteurs mais il subsiste des écueils à leur utilisation : leur stabilité est souvent limitée à température ambiante, leur fragilité mécanique complique leur manipulation, et surtout les intégrer dans des dispositifs fonctionnels reste difficile. Ces matériaux au comportement fascinant en laboratoire doivent encore être optimisés pour rendre possible les applications concrètes. La synthèse rationnelle, le contrôle de la morphologie, et la modélisation théorique sont les axes de recherche qui permettront de concrétiser les applications prometteuses des clathrates de type Hofmann.</p>

<p>Un déséquilibre du cuivre pourrait favoriser le stress oxydant et accélérer la destruction des neurones. Son équipe tente aujourd’hui de développer des molécules innovantes pour neutraliser ces effets toxiques et protéger les cellules.</p>

				<div class="et_pb_text_inner"><p>En associant de l’ADN à un catalyseur métallique sensible à la lumière (photocatalyseur), des scientifiques ont conçu une enzyme artificielle capable de contrôler avec précision des réactions chimiques sous lumière visible, une performance que les métalloenzymes à base de protéines ne parviennent pas encore à atteindre. Des travaux publiés dans Nature Communications, qui pourraient transformer la conception des catalyseurs chiraux en chimie et biotechnologie.</p>
<p>Longtemps considéré comme une simple molécule de stockage de l’information génétique, l’ADN révèle aujourd’hui des propriétés insoupçonnées. Des équipes du Laboratoire de chimie de coordination (CNRS/Université de Toulouse) et de l’Institut des biomolécules Max Mousseron (CNRS/Université de Montpellier &#8211; ENSCM) ont conçu une photoDNAzyme artificielle, combinant les propriétés de l’ADN à celles d’un photocatalyseur métallique.</p>
<p>Ce système hybride utilise l’énergie de la lumière visible pour déclencher des réactions chimiques non naturelles dans l’eau, avec une énantiosélectivité élevée (préférence pour l’un des deux énantiomères, ces molécules images l’une de l’autre dans un miroir). En inversant la chiralité de l’hélice de l’ADN, les chercheurs peuvent même contrôler et inverser cette sélectivité, une flexibilité inédite par rapport aux enzymes naturelles à base de protéines.</p>
<p>Publiés dans <em>Nature Communications</em>, ces résultats ouvrent la voie à de nouvelles réactions photochimiques énantiosélectives et à des biocatalyseurs hybrides programmables, activables par la lumière et compatibles avec des environnements aqueux. Une avancée prometteuse pour la biotechnologie.</p>

<p>Les lanthanides jouent un rôle essentiel dans les technologies modernes, la médecine et même dans le métabolisme de certaines bactéries méthylotrophes. Dans ce contexte, l’étude des peptides et protéines capables de se lier aux ions lanthanides (Ln³⁺) constitue un domaine de recherche en plein essor.<br />Cette revue présente de manière approfondie les paramètres structuraux, thermodynamiques et cinétiques qui gouvernent l’interaction entre les ions Ln³⁺ et divers peptides ou protéines.</p>
<p>Elle explore également les pistes d’applications : détection luminescente, imagerie par résonance magnétique (IRM), séparation et recyclage des lanthanides, catalyse (photo)catalytique basée sur les lanthanides.</p>

<p>Les chercheurs ont réalisé des expériences de broyage sur une poudre à transition de spin (SCO) seule, puis en présence de la matrice de polyuréthane thermoplastique (TPU).<br />Ils ont observé que la présence de cette matière plastique protège les particules SCO pendant le broyage, ce bouclier empêchant leur désactivation.<br />Ce résultat ouvre des perspectives intéressantes pour l’utilisation de ces matériaux SCO dans de futurs dispositifs technologiques.</p>

<p>Une série de clathrates de type Hofmann à base de Fe(II) comportant des ligands rédox-actifs révèle une relation en cloche entre le potentiel rédox et la température de transition de spin.<br />
Ce travail met en lumière la manière dont la modulation électronique des ligands influence l’état de spin, la symétrie cristalline et le transfert d’électrons, selon une interprétation fondée sur la théorie de Marcus.</p>

				<div class="et_pb_text_inner"><p style="text-align: left;">Contrairement aux ions lanthanides, le couplage spin-orbite de premier ordre est annulé par le champ ligand pour les ions de métaux de transition, et l&rsquo;obtention d&rsquo;une anisotropie magnétique élevée est généralement considérée comme le Saint Graal pour ces ions. Nos résultats obtenus avec le Fe(II) montrent que la contribution du couplage spin-orbite de premier ordre ne se limite pas aux complexes à faible nombre de coordination, mais peut être obtenue dans des complexes de géométrie bipyramide pentagonale (voir figure) grâce à une conception chimique appropriée. Ceci est confirmé par des calculs théoriques et des comportements magnétiques expérimentaux compatibles avec l&rsquo;existence d&rsquo;une anisotropie magnétique importante, la caractéristique la plus marquante étant les comportements SMM avec des barrières énergétiques importantes pour l’inversion de l&rsquo;aimantation. L&rsquo;observation d&rsquo;un tel comportement sans champ magnétique statique appliqué est tout à fait remarquable pour un complexe 3d mononucléaire.</p></div>

<h4 style="text-align: left;">pH-Controlled Gliding Motions in Pillar[5]arene-Containing Molecular Shuttles.</h4>

<p style="text-align: left;">Des chercheurs du Laboratoire de chimie de coordination (LCC Toulouse) et du <span class="accordion-tabbed__tab-mobile accordion__closed">Laboratoire de chimie des matériaux moléculaires</span> (UNISTRA Strasbourg) ont conçu des « navettes moléculaires », et sont capables de contrôler leurs déplacements. Ces machines moléculaires utilisent une molécule en forme d’anneau, appelée <strong>pillar[5]arène</strong>, qui peut glisser le long d’un axe composé de deux zones (stations) différentes.</p>
<p>Ce qui rend ces navettes uniques, c’est qu’elles réagissent à leur environnement :</p>
<ul>
<li>Quand le milieu est acide (pH bas), l’anneau peut glisser librement sur toute la longueur du rail.</li>
<li>Quand le milieu est neutre, ses mouvements moléculaires sont limités à la station décyle.</li>
</ul>
<p>L’anneau peut également être bloqué sur une partie précise du rail (la station décyle) en modifiant la molécule protonée par une oxydation électrochimique. Ce système montre qu’il est possible de contrôler précisément le mouvement de composants moléculaires, ce qui ouvre la voie à des applications futures dans les nanotechnologies ou les matériaux intelligents.</p>

<p>Face à l’urgence sanitaire mondiale que représente l’antibiorésistance, Michel Baltas (équipe R du LCC <a href="https://www.lcc-toulouse.fr/molecules-et-composites-pour-loptique-equipe-r-2/">Molécules et composites pour l’optique</a>) et ses collaborateurs ont synthétisé une nouvelle molécule qu’ils ont baptisée <em>infuzide</em>. Cette molécule s’est révélée efficace contre des souches résistantes de pathogènes gram positifs, notamment <em>Staphylococcus aureus</em> et <em>Enterococcus</em>, en laboratoire et sur modèle animal. <em>Infuzide</em> s’est avérée plus performante que certains antibiotiques de référence. Ces résultats marquent une étape importante vers le développement de nouveaux traitements contre les infections résistantes aux antibiotiques classiques.</p>
