Jean-Baptiste Sortais est Professeur à l’Université Toulouse III, Paul-Sabatier et mène ses travaux de recherches centrés sur la catalyse homogène organométallique au Laboratoire de Chimie de Coordination du CNRS, UPR 8241.

Suite à des études effectuées à l’Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon (lauréat du concours de l’Agrégation de Sciences Physiques, option Chimie en 2003), Jean-Baptiste Sortais prépare son DEA, puis son doctorat à l’Université Louis Pasteur à Strasbourg sous la direction du Dr. Michel Pfeffer. Ses travaux de recherches portent alors sur la synthèse de complexes chiraux cyclométalés du ruthénium et leurs applications en catalyse. Il effectue ensuite deux séjours post-doctoraux, successivement avec le Pr. Jan-Erling Bäckvall à l’Université de Stockholm en Suède sur les dédoublements cinétiques dynamiques, puis avec le Pr. Gerhard Erker à l’Université de Münster en Allemagne dans le domaine des paires de Lewis-Frustrées. En 2009, il est recruté comme Maître de Conférences à l’Université de Rennes 1, à l’Institut des Sciences Chimiques de Rennes, dans l’équipe Organométalliques : Matériaux et Catalyse. En 2017, il est promu Professeur à l’Université Toulouse III, Paul Sabatier.

Ses travaux de recherches actuels sont centrés principalement sur le développement de nouveaux catalyseurs moléculaires à base de métaux de transition abondants 3d, tel que le fer, le nickel, le cobalt, et le manganèse. Les applications en catalyse se focalisent autour de processus de réduction au sens large (hydroélémentation, hydrogénation, déshydrogénation, transfert d’hydrogène, hydrosilylation, hydroboration et auto-transfert d’hydrogène) et d’activation directe de liaisons C-H. L’objectif principal de ses travaux est ainsi de promouvoir de nouvelles réactivités et/ou de nouvelles sélectivités sur la base de catalyseurs faisant appel à des métaux facilement disponibles et peu onéreux dans le cadre d’une chimie durable.

En 2016, il a été nommé Membre Junior de l’Institut Universitaire de France et en 2019 il a reçu le prix Jeune Chercheur de la Division Catalyse de la SCF.

 

 

 

 

Domaines d’expertise – projets en cours

Son programme de recherche porte sur le développement de transformations catalytiques sélectives à l’aide de complexes métalliques portant des ligands NHCs.

Ses intérêts de recherche incluent la synthèse organique, la chimie organométallique et la (photo)catalyse homogène, avec un accent particulier sur les réactions de fonctionnalisation des liaisons carbone-hydrogène.
