Recently, the use of N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) iridium complexes as catalysts in many organic transformations has increased dramatically. These iridium complexes have great advantages including their remarkable tunable character, the ease of synthesis and the high stability. Among the many catalytic applications of NHC-Ir complexes, hydrogen transfer (HT) reactions have received great attention in the last decade. In this presentation, our latest results on transfer hydrogenation (TH), acceptorless dehydrogenation (AD), the formation of C‒C and C‒N bonds via hydrogen autotransfer (HA), and reductive amination (RA) reactions catalyzed by Ir-NHC complexes will be discussed in detail (Figure 1).

NHC-Ir catalyzed TH, AD, HA, and RA reactions.
