We study the coordination of d- (mainly Cu(I/II) and Zn(II)) and f-elements  with the amyloid-β (Aβ) peptide involved in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and how this could contribute to the origin of the pathology.

Two main processes are under focus: (i) the Cu-induced production of Reactive Oxygen Species and its intricate mechanism and (ii) the metal-modulated self-assembly of Aβ. A possible synergetic link between the two processes is also under investigation.

More recently, we are also interested in deciphering at the molecular level the epidemiological link between AD and type-2 diabetes via the study of co-assembly processes.
